If your perfect autumn day includes wagging tails, splashing paws, and salty sea air, then Brixham deserves a spot at the very top of your list. This charming South Devon fishing town isn’t just about colourful boats and the best fish and chips on the coast, it’s also a dream destination for four-legged adventurers. From tucked-away coves to sweeping sandy bays, here are some of the best dog-friendly beaches in and around Brixham that welcome dogs all year round.
Fishcombe Cove
Shady, peaceful, and brimming with charm, Fishcombe Cove is a little gem nestled beneath the trees. This pebbly hideaway feels like a tranquil escape, with gentle waves and even the occasional curious seal bobbing by. The steps down from Battery Gardens are steep, though there’s an easier slope on the opposite side, making it accessible from both directions. You’ll even find a cosy beach café where you can enjoy a warm coffee while your pup enjoys a bowl of water or a doggy treat. This charming beach hut café is family-run, and their toasted tea cakes are an absolute must on a crisp autumn day. Back in 2021, TV favourite Ainsley Harriott dropped by to film Good Mood Food and whipped up his famous Brixham Crab Bread Bowl right in the café!
Positioned along the South West Coast Path between Battery Gardens and Churston Cove, it’s perfect for a laid-back day of paddling and walking.
Breakwater Beach
For those who like their beach days with a few home comforts, Breakwater Beach is a winner. Parking at Shoalstone Car Park makes it super convenient, and there’s plenty of space to enjoy a bag of fish and chips while your furry friend watches the boats drift lazily across the bay. Located right by the breakwater, it’s easy to reach and packed with coastal charm, and with an on-site café and picnic site, it’s a great place to stop off and grab a drink for you and your pooch.
Churston Cove

Hidden at the end of a beautiful woodland walk, Churston Cove feels like a secret waiting to be discovered. With crystal-clear waters and a quiet, pebbly shore, it’s a peaceful haven where dogs are welcome all year round. Parking is best near Churston Court Hotel, followed by a scenic stroll through the trees to reach the cove. Nestled between Fishcombe Cove and Elberry Cove, this spot is a little off the beaten path, but its natural beauty makes every step of the walk worthwhile.
St Mary’s Bay
Wide open, wild, and wonderfully sandy, St Mary’s Bay is a dog’s paradise. This expansive stretch of coastline is ideal for zoomies, with plenty of space for running, chasing, and rolling about in the sand. Accessible via a steep path from the South West Coast Path (parking at Sharkham Point is easiest), it’s worth the effort for the breathtaking views alone. Pack sturdy shoes, a towel, and a few tasty rewards for the climb back up! Stick around for sunset if you can, the golden glow over the bay is nothing short of magical, and your pup will look extra adorable with the sun at their back.
Man Sands

If you’re looking for something a little wilder, Man Sands is the perfect escape. Tucked away just under two miles from Brixham, this unspoiled beach offers wide skies, rolling dunes, and plenty of freedom for dogs to roam. The beach is reached via a countryside walk from the nearby National Trust car park, so it’s less crowded and all the more peaceful. There are no facilities here, no cafés, no loos, just the sound of waves, fresh air, and the joy of watching your dog dash along the sand. Bring water, snacks, and perhaps a flask of tea for a blissful, back-to-nature day out. This is a haven for birds, and there are information boards and a bird hide managed by the National Trust, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
From hidden coves to windswept bays, Brixham’s coastline is a playground for pups and people alike. So, grab the lead, pack some treats, and head for the shore, because the only thing better than a day at the beach is a day at the beach with your best furry friend.
